I am an artist of many trades: a painter, fiber artist, jeweler and sculptor.
Convinced that our way of life as a species is unsustainable, and that we need to imagine and implement new ways to produce and consume, I decided to make this concern the focus of my work. Our lifestyle creates an unimaginable trail of refuse. I look at those rejects as the raw material for my work. The less valuable they seem, the better, as their “rehabilitation” indulges my depleted sense of social justice. I use a wide variety of discarded objects and materials, from old jeans and wrapping materials to rubber inner tubes and lightbulbs. I find inspiration in nature, and traditional cultures to create objects of beauty to wear or look at. |
