Community, Culture, Collaboration

These are ACCI Gallery’s core principles. We are committed to justice, equality, and full representation of our diverse Bay Area Community.

Black Lives Matter.

We unequivocally stand in solidarity with artists of color, LGBTQIA artists, young emerging artists, and underrepresented artists.

We honor this territory’s indigenous people, the Lisjan Ohlone, with whom we hope to establish a legitimate and trustworthy relationship through a mutually enriching exchange of art, ideas, and culture.

We see you, we stand with you, we honor you.

Art has roots in different cultures with branches extending into all walks of life. Art has the capacity and capability to connect us as one human race. Through art, we can appreciate the beauty and contribution of different cultures in the Bay Area. We aim to reflect this rich diversity in our member owned gallery.
As an organization invested in supporting the voices, work, and livelihoods of artists and artisans, we understand we must work together to create a dynamic, authentic community that values, uplifts, and supports everyone, with the aim of repairing inequities and expanding opportunities for underrepresented artists.

We are taking immediate steps toward meeting these goals by:
  • Establishing a member committee dedicated to actively pursuing diversity, equity and inclusion in our Cooperative;
  • Seeking out artists from underrepresented populations and encouraging them to apply for membership to the gallery;
  • Offering reduced fees (on a per case basis) to underrepresented artists wanting to apply;
  • Presenting future exhibitions such as “Art of Resilience: Black Artists Surviving and Thriving in the Bay Area” premiering October 3, 2020.

Moving forward we will:
  • Extend a warm welcome to new artists of color, LGBTQIA, young emerging artists and underrepresented artists, prioritizing their inclusion as members;
  • Showcase and actively market the work of these artists through our newsletter, social media, and other forms of outreach;
  • Schedule special events throughout the year for people of color and underrepresented artists to connect them to the larger arts community;
  • Support ACCI members of color in seeking out and inviting non-member artists of color in our curated exhibits;
  • Encourage existing members to offer workshops for youth, making an effort to include youth of color;
  • Collaborate with other galleries and arts organizations that feature Artists of Color and underrepresented artists.
  • Seek out and give priority to people from underrepresented communities when hiring staff members, selecting Committee Chairs, and electing Board members.

We see ourselves as an integral part of the Bay Area community; we welcome the perspectives of our members, patrons, and the greater arts community on how to further develop these goals and ideas. Please send us your ideas, thoughts and feedback.
