I have been working with clay for more than 50 years! I use nature, someone else’s work, my own daydream as inspirations. In the last few years I have been doing mostly fish and horses whose surfaces are highly decorated. I use many different clays: coarse sculpture clays, fine porcelains, stonewares somewhere in between. With a fine white porcelain the work is very thin and translucent with a painterly surface. Coarse stonewares and sculpture clays lead to a more gestural, visceral effect; but I always aim for a serious kind of humor.
