Gail SplaverCeramics | Jewelry
A self taught artist, Gail Splaver discovered that working with clay, the basic material of the earth, cultivates an innate and satisfying connection to nature. Techniques and skills developed over the years have come directly from nature-focused observation as well as art workshops.
Her father's veterinary practice was attached to her childhood home and offered exposure to science as one of the inspirations for her ceramic practice. Glimpses of his animals are often seen in Gail's work. She likes her work to invoke a happy response in the viewer and tell them it was made by hand--the shaping, texturing, and glazing--and to see that not even two matching parts of a pair are exactly identical. Gail is a member of the ACCI Gallery, the Berkeley Potters Guild and an Exhibiting member of the Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California. |
