Ellen GordonCast Plaster Botanicals
After years of being a graphic designer (and working on a computer), I was very ready to get my hands dirty again making art. I learned about the process of making plaster casts using clay molds imprinted with a variety of plant materials. Through trial and error, I determined which plants made better impressions, which types of plaster delivered more detailed casts, and how to best add color to the final piece.
A custom cast plaster piece can preserve the best of a wedding bouquet, or any other flowers or plants that carry a significant memory. I often do special orders. Although I have been doing this work for a while now, it continues to evolve and I always feel like there is a little bit of magic in the process. I currently maintain a studio in the San Francisco Bay Area. |
