    Water is Sacred
    A Juried Photography Exhibition Exploring the Power of Water
    September 1-October 8, 2023

    “Water is Sacred” is a juried photography exhibition that explores the power of water in its various forms and how that power is manifested in our diverse environments. Photographer Susanna (Suzun) Lucia Lamaina will be our guest juror/curator.
     
    From rain to rivers to floods, moisture to lakes and oceans, water is a powerful force affecting the planet. It nurtures our gardens and devastates our lives when there’s a drought. It’s the basis of all life.
     
    We invite photographers to submit photographs that examine the myriad impacts of water. From the presence of water to its absence. Consider a broad spectrum of subject matter, such as extreme weather and climate changes, access to clean drinking water and everyday activities like bathing and doing laundry.
     
    This exhibition will explore the dynamics of water as sacred and its impact on our lives.
     
    REQUIREMENTS
    • All photographs submitted must be accompanied with a narrative (one paragraph) about water or lack thereof. 
    • Photographers may submit a maximum of 8 photographs.
    • Submitted photographs should represent the quality and nature of the work. All photographers must submit photographs showing the artwork in its entirety. Single photographs or a series are acceptable.
    • Digital, silver gelatin, and alternative process photographs in black and white or color and a broad range of sizes are welcome.
    • All applicants must be residents of the USA.

    SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
    • Submission deadline is Saturday, August 5 (EXTENDED DATE)
    • Digital images should be up to 1000 pixels on the longest side saved in .JPG or .PNG format.
    • Do not submit .HEIC or .PDF file formats; they are not readable.
    • Each image should be labeled with consecutive numbers followed by your name, i.e.: LastName_Title_1.jpg.
    • Please indicate print sizes (including dimensions of art and dimensions of frame) with submission.
    • When you click to submit your application, you will be redirected to a payment link in our online store. If you have submitted between 1 and 4 photographs, go ahead and purchase ONE entry fee of $35.
    • If you are submitting between 4 and 8 photographs, dismiss this initial redirect to the payment link and return to the application form to submit your additional photographs. When you click submit and are redirected to the payment link, choose a quantity of TWO and pay a total of $70. 
    • IMPORTANT: Your browser must have pop-ups enabled for https://www.accigallery.com/. Please do not attempt to resubmit the application if this occurs.     FEES
    • Photographers may submit up to four images for a flat fee of $35.
    • Photographers may submit twice for a total of 8 photographs/$70.
    • Submission fees are not refundable.

    NOTIFICATIONS
    • All photographers who have submitted an entry will receive an email notification of the juror’s selection by Monday August 6.

    About the Juror/Curator
     
    Susanna Lucia Lamaina received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in Photography and her MA from San Francisco State University in Photography and Interdisciplinary Arts. A former colleague of noted Farm Security Administration photographer John Collier, Jr., Susanna is an independent scholar, photo historian, social documentary photographer and educator.

    • Installation: Wednesday, August 30
    • Opening Reception: Saturday, September 9, 4-6pm

    GALLERY SPECIFICATIONS
    1. Artwork will be considered based on concept, execution, and ability to be appropriately and safely displayed.
    2. All work submitted must be for sale.
    3. If accepted, work sold will be split 50/50 between the artist and ACCI (except for Active Members of ACCI who will receive their current membership split).
    4. Each applicant may submit up to 4 works for $35 fee.
    5. Image files must be .jpg file format, minimum 1000 pixels on long edge. Do not submit files larger than 1MB.
    6. Accepted work must be delivered framed and ready to hang/install.
    7. If shipped, artist (or authorized agent) is responsible for timely and secure RETURN shipping arrangements.
