About the Exhibition: Auditory and visual art have often had a symbiotic, intertwining relationship. Both use composition, rhythm, harmony, texture, and movement to communicate. Each distinct expression sparks creativity within the other—highlighting, contrasting, even blending into one another. We think of works by Matisse, Kandinsky and Stuart Davis transforming sound and rhythm into color and brushstroke; the breathtaking use of deconstructed instruments in sculptures by Armand. Artists have long captured musicians in portraiture, or become musicians themselves by creating their own instruments. As commentary or collaboration, music and visual art make a compelling pair. Let the music be your muse!

Galloping in her own terrain, Linda Goldie Hagood brings her voice and musical vision to light with sweet hearted whimsy and joy. After being in Smack Dab (1990 to 1995 in New York City) and the Double U (1996 to 2003 in San Francisco) and then back in NYC from 2003 to 2008, Linda has found herself in the woods of northern California. There she and her music are interacting with the shadows and the dream world in a way that feels more grounded. Previously rumpus and circulatory driven by city experiences, she now finds herself able to take in the sounds of nature and the darkness of the woods with wonder and serenity. Playing with bringing light to the shadows , Linda often incorporates creatures and gives them aurographic mythology. She welcomes jackalopes, owls, and pussycats to her songwriting . All of these elements bring a quieter Linda who previously enjoyed a rowdier splash of sound effects and raucous vocal expression.

Electric Chaircut
Nelson’s Electric Chaircut is the original amplified haircut performance! It is an interactive, electro-sonic, haircut performance. Volunteers are taped to the chair, their eyes and mouth are also taped to symbolize the fetishism of appearance. The hair is then cut by Nelson, the original master of electro-sonic hair design. The various implements are amplified, scissors and clippers wired to effects pedals, slung round his waist, and blasted through an amplifier strapped to his back. The whacking haircutting sounds reverberates in a trance like cacophony of seemingly random patterns, as the true stylistic nature of the volunteer is released. Originally conceived in San Francisco, Nelson Loskamp has been performing Electric Chaircut, amplified haircuts, worldwide since 1989. Come get your free Electric Chaircut!
Recent performances at Treasure Island Music Fest and SXS. Rocky AngelRocky Angel has made art for many years, mostly drawing and painting. After going to a high school that did not offer art or music classes, he attended the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Started out as an Electrical Engineering major, then graduated with a B.A. in Graphics Design.
Studied computer art at the Art Institute of Boston and the Boston Museum School of the Fine Arts, through an employee assistance program at work. After unsuccessfully trying to get a show in the Boston area, Rocky moved to California. One day Rocky showed some photos of oil paintings he did between 1985-1995 to a waitress who was a born again Christian. She said a prayer for him on the spot. Since then, rocky continued his education at Silicon Valley College, S.F. State and Laney College, and has shown at many galleries and events. |

Theresa CurrieTheresa Currie (BFA 1999, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago) is an interdisciplinary artist. She is fascinated by traditional mark making techniques, sound experience and collaborative projects. Her subjects include fellow performance artists, costumed noise musicians, dancers, and nature. She is a member of noise music trio FOOT SOS. Today she resides in San Francisco with her partner and has been a part of SF Artists Studios since 2020.

Jason Stamberger
Jason Stamberger is an Oakland-based musician, composer, and educator. In addition to composing theater music, he has played in Crack:WAR, Le Flange du Mal, Neung Phak, Malcolm Mooney and The Tenth Planet, Marauder and Alibi, blackQueen, and Anti-Ear. Jason has collaborated with members of Can, Negativland, MX-80, The Avengers, and Caroliner.
