ACCI Gallery Presents Masquerade: Art to Wear
An exhibition celebrating wearable art from the sublime to the wildly fantastical BERKELEY, Calif. ACCI Gallery presents Masquerade: Art to Wear, an exhibition celebrating sartorial splendor, imagination and the limitless possibilities of wearable art. Bringing together works designed to disguise, enhance, adorn, bedeck, veil, and augment the body, Masquerade explores the place where fine art, fashion, craft and self expression meet. Masquerade: Art to Wear celebrates creations that are inventive, fearsome, wildly fantastical, beautiful, quirky, futuristic, atavistic, colorful and unexpected. Traditional materials appear alongside unusual ones, while found objects and recycled materials offer opportunities to turn the overlooked and discarded into something extraordinary. At the heart of the exhibition is the idea that what we wear can be much more than functional. Wearable art can conceal or reveal, transform identity, create character, challenge convention and turn the body itself into part of the artwork. A garment can become sculpture. A headdress can become architecture. An accessory can create an entirely new persona. The exhibition also highlights the craftsmanship behind wearable art. Participating works demonstrate both originality of concept and skill in making, revealing the artistry required to transform materials into pieces that can adorn, surround, disguise or dramatically reshape the human form.
