Onna SchwindtMixed Media, Textiles
Onna Schwindt is a mixed media embroidery artist whose work is inspired by patterns, circles, symmetry, and the sacred geometry that surround us in daily life. She uses traditional embroidery stitches, while incorporating found objects, beads, stones, crystals, and metal embellishments into her pieces. She enjoys the slow stitching process, as it provides comfort, quiet, and calmness in the chaos of life. It has become both her art and meditation.
As a child she spent time with both her grandmother and mother making countless Midwest-style farm crafts, including embroidery projects. These cherished moments sparked the desire for her to constantly create things with her hands, resulting in a lifelong pursuit of learning many art techniques. Recently, while helping her father downsize his house, she discovered many old family embroideries hidden away and came to the realization that she descends from a long line of stitchers. This reconnected her with her childhood passion for embroidery, as she attempts to take it to a new level. |
