About the Curator: Carolyn Tillie is a culinary historian, artist, curator, and consultant. Combining gastronomic and artistic passions, she specializes in creating and exhibiting food-themed jewelry and artwork, lecturing on various culinary historic themes, and consulting with art galleries and museums to organize and present gastronomically interactive events.  With an MFA in jewelry and metalsmithing from CSULB, she obtained a Certified Master Chef certificate from Epicurean school in Los Angeles, and a Level Two certification from the Wine Spirit Education Trust.
As co-founder of the Bay Area Culinary Historians and former catering manager for the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Carolyn has staged events and dinners such as a ten-course dinner from the Salvador Dalì cookbook, Les Diners de Gala, Roman-era banquets from the fourth century Apicius cookbook, De re cocquinaria, and Victorian-era feasts, complete with authentic service ware. Through the Oxford Food Symposium, she has both presented papers as well as led hands-on, introspective food-themed art workshops.

About the Exhibition: ACCI Gallery is thrilled to announce a new exhibition that will celebrate the visual and conceptual language of food through works measuring less than 12 inches in any direction—a true feast for the eyes in miniature. Food, in both its abundance and intimacy, has inspired generations of artists, from Dutch still life painters to contemporary conceptualists. This exhibit seeks to distill those big ideas into small formats: sculptures, paintings, jewelry, ceramics, and mixed media works. By focusing on “bite-sized” pieces, we invite both artists and viewers to engage with food in a playful, intimate way—reminiscent of amuse-bouches, petits fours, or treasured heirlooms that fit in the palm of a hand.
Eligibility:
  • Open nationally to artists of all backgrounds and ages working in any medium; all works must feature food as central theme or inspiration and measure less than 12” in any direction. 2-D art completed and framed should measure less than 12 inches.

Submission Guidelines:
  • Artists may submit up to three pieces of original artwork for consideration.
  • Work must have been made within the last two years.
  • Submissions must be accompanied by a brief artist statement (50-100 words) explaining the inspiration and significance of the artwork. This statement may be displayed alongside the artwork in the exhibition.
  • Artists should include a short bio (100-150 words) highlighting their background, artistic journey, and any relevant experiences or achievements.
